HR in Half an Hour: Labor & Safety Law Review for 2024

A Labor and Safety Law Review: Preparing for What’s to Come in 2024

Last month, Governor Newsom was busy putting his signature onto almost 900 bills set to go into law in 2024 that will have far-reaching implications for California employers. The Golden State has long been at the forefront of progressive labor laws and safety regulations and this year was no different.

With so much to unpack this season, we have put together an expert panel. Along with our very own Kely Blackburn, HR Business Consultant, we will be joined by another M&G expert, Michael Schedler, Risk and Safety Consultant, who comes to the table with more than 30 years of Cal OSHA field safety expertise. Additionally, we welcome Nicole Kamm, Partner with Fisher Phillips Law Firm, who represents a broad range of clients, from small businesses to national companies in a variety of industries defending employers against individual and class claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations before state and federal courts and administrative agencies.

This session will be jam-packed with plenty of takeaways, so let that shock wear off as our expert panel reviews the upcoming legislation set to begin:

  • Expansion of CA Paid Sick Leave Benefits (SB 616)
  • Restrictions of Marijuana Testing, Off Duty Use of Marijuana is a Civil Right and Industry Exemptions (AB 2188)
  • NEW Protected Leave for “Reproductive Loss” under CFRA (SB 848)
  • Review of the NEW Workplace Violence Prevention Program Requirements (SB 553)
  • Presumption of Retaliation if Action Taken within 90 days of Protected Activity (SB 497)
  • Updates in Minimum Wages – State, Healthcare (SB 525) and Fast Food (AB 1228)
  • Enhanced Restrictions for Non-Competes (AB 1076 | SB 699)
  • Extension of COVID-19 Displaced Work Recall Rights (SB 723) and Review of COVID-19 Regulations Set to Expire in 2023
  • Live Q&A (All presenters)

What "covered" should feel like.
